Fort Wayne fire investigators believe a discarded cigarette was probably the cause of a fire that eventually would destroy 24 apartment units at the Hunt Club complex on the city's westside.

Fifty residents, occupying 22 units, have been displaced by the fire that broke out around ten p.m. Tuesday night at the complex at Illinois and Hadley Roads.

No one was hurt in the fire.

Fort Wayne Fire units remained on the scene overnight and through the morning as residents returned to retrieve the few items they could.

Many of the residents apparently did not have renters insurance. The American Red Cross is alsomon scene providing support to the residents.
