Two Teens Judged Delinquent in Rock Attack

By Jeff Neumeyer

FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- Two Fort Wayne juveniles are found guilty of criminal charges related to a random attack on a young woman, whose skull was pierced by a rock hurled through a car window.

Both teens tried to lay the blame on the other, but it didn't help either one get off the hook for a brazen and senseless crime.

25-year-old Erika Kinney never saw the rock that shattered the passenger side window of the car she was riding in on South Lafayette Street March 18th.

Kinney testified Friday that she thought she'd been shot before she lost consciousness and was forced to undergo brain surgery.

16-year-old Vincent Shelton and 17-year-old Dustin Bjorklund implicated each other on the witness stand.

Bjorklund early Friday pleaded guilty to a lesser criminal recklessness charge, while Shelton was found guilty by the judge of a more serious offense.

Erika Kinney and her family and friends, however, were not entirely satisfied with the result.

They wanted the boys bumped up to adult court.

It was revealed in the fact-finding hearings that a civil lawsuit seeking damages would be filed on behalf of the victim.

A more positive event related to the incident was set to take place Friday evening.

A benefit concert was planned for Piere's Nightclub, with proceeds to be turned over to Erika Kinney to help with medical bills.

The James Burton All Star Band, featuring the former lead guitarist for Elvis Presley, was slated to perform and rock n’ roll memorabilia was to be raffled off.
