IPFW Security Measures, A Month Later

IPFW Security Measures, A Month Later

By Jessica Toumani

FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) ---

It was almost a month ago when an IPFW student was discovered dead in her campus apartment. Police believe she was scalded and stabbed to death by her roomate's mother.

IPFW officials promised shortly after they would review their security measures and student housing policies.

When Liette "Lola" Martinez, originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico was murdered, campus officials decided to use email instead of their newly installed reverse 9-1-1 program to alert students.

Officials said the program didn't perform quickly enough.

A few days later, the university announced they would scrap the existing alert system and review dorm security policies.

Now, almost a month later, school officials say they're getting close to making a decision on a new system.

As far as security policy goes, nothing has changed just yet.

Officials say they're still reviewing.

Accused murderer Tina Morris will be in court on Monday.

The Martinez family spoke exclusively to Indiana's NewsCenter about losing their only child.

"I just like my heart left, my heart left, the empty feeling, just so empty not being able to see her again, not being able to see her again," says her father, Gabe Martinez.

The family also told us their thoughts on the death penalty for the woman thought to have taken their daughter's life.
