Closing After 64 Years

By Carl Smith

FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's News Center)---Open since 1944 the White Swan IGA grocery store is now closing its doors.
The store which prided itself for being a true 'full service' supermarket will be closing for good on Sunday July 20th.

Owner Tom Dant says, "I went to all the City Council meetings and they were talking about Wal Mart and City Council was all for it and creating jobs and etc. Well, they may have created a few jobs, but now several others are going away. There's just too much competition, too many places you can buy groceries anymore."

The store employed about 30 people who will now be out of a job. They also delivered food to the Edsell House retirement community. Many residents there wonder how they will now get their groceries.

The store will be offering 20% off all of its merchandise (except for tobacco products) now until closing day on Sunday.
