New Details on New Stimulus Plan

By WISE Web News

WASHINGTON (AP) (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Top Democrats say they want to work on another
stimulus plan right after the election.
Congressman Barney Frank of Massachusetts, who heads the House
Financial Services Committee, says it would "give the middle-class
and the average citizen the same kind of relief" that Congress has
been trying to give the financial sector.
The new plan is expected to cost $150 billion. It would likely
extend jobless benefits, provide more money for food stamps, and
finance public works projects such as rebuilding bridges and roads.
Meanwhile, New York Senator Charles Schumer, who chairs the
Joint Economic Committee, says an administration proposal to pump
federal money directly into certain banks "is gaining steam." He
hopes the Treasury Department will make an announcement tomorrow
because he says "markets are waiting."
