Extreme Makeover: The American Dream

Pleasant Lake, Ind (Indiana's NewsCenter)-In January, Indiana's NewsCenter announced our "American Dream" contest, where one lucky person who continues to give back to the community would be awarded with five thousand dollars for themselves and the charity of their choice. Dozens wrote in but there could only be one winner. ABC and Indiana's Newscenter have chosen Candy Oliver of Pleasant Lake.

Candy has suffered through tough times for the last eight years. She battled breast cancer and just a short time later her husband had heart problems and was later diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. The Oliver's financial situation tumbled, and they were forced into a home that was 110 years old, a home that needed a lot of work. But through it all, Candy continued giving back, spending her free time as the Executive Director of the Steuben County Cancer Association. Candy used the money to fix up her small master bedroom, making it larger, adding new windows and floors.

On May 30th, Indiana's NewsCenter will be throwing a party for Candy and her husband Paul at the Elks Club in Angola. The event will double as a fundraiser for the Steuben County Cancer Association. Everyone's invited. And don't forget, the season finale of "Extreme Home Makeover" is this Sunday.
