NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Local college students will be volunteering at the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build in Miami County this weekend.

More than 40 students with the athletic training program at Manchester College will spend eight-hours rebuilding the Cowan-Brown family's home on Sunday for the ABC program.

School officials say the students got the ok from network officials to help paint the deserving family's home.

Andy and Heather Cowan are factory workers who are struggling to support their four children.

Their 12-year-old daughter Kori raises money to fight cancer in honor of her best friend, while she battles her own congenital blood disease.

Doctors believe Kori's poor health may be worsened by a mold infestation in the family's home.

Manchester college officials say this is a great opportunity for the students to build character outside the classroom.

“We try to teach these individuals how to become better adults and do what they need to do for these kind of community works,” Manchester College’s Athletic Director of Programs Jeff Beer said. “I feel that that is something we can do through this extreme home makeover. And we're helping a family; we're helping a community as they do these types of projects. And I feel like that is a big key of what these individuals are going to be in the future.”

The group has also organized a food drive on campus to help stock the family's shelves once the home is complete.

The big revel is Tuesday for the family. No word on when the episode will air; stay tuned for that information.
