Menards expands home improvement to home construction

By Peter Neumann

WARSAW, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- Home improvement retailer Menards is creating need for its drills, saws and toilet seats in a way that's unique to its industry: it's going to build homes in subdivisions in Warsaw, Indiana and in Urbana and Yorkville, Illinois.

The Eau Claire-based company is developing homes in residential
subdivisions. The North American Retail Hardware Association says this could be a first for the industry. Spokesman Scott Wright says Menards appears to be the only home improvement retailer that develops
subdivisions.

Jamie Radabaugh is director of sales and leasing for the
company's property division. Radabaugh says the company is actively
looking for new projects around its existing stores. Menards gets
deals on land when it plans stores and then sells the land to home
developers.
