Fort Wayne GM Plant Likely Target of Shift Cuts

GM's truck assembly plant in Fort Wayne could have only one shift remaining after company makes cuts in truck and SUV production.

FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- Facing sluggish sales of trucks and SUV's, General Motors apears on the verge of implementing cuts in the number of shifts at SUV and truck plants, including Fort Wayne's truck assembly plant.

A month ago, GM announced plans to reduce shifts at a half-dozen plants that make gas-challenged trucks and SUV's. Now that the American Axle strike has ended, GM appears to be moving forward to implement those shift cuts.

Fort Wayne's GM truck assembly plant could lose a shift under GM's cutback plan and be left with one shift. The announcement come Tuesday during a GM shareholder's meeting in Delaware.
