Seven sculptures by France's Auguste Rodin, including a version of his iconic "The Thinker" depicting a seated man in meditation, have gone on display in a central Madrid street.
The sculptures were set up on Friday outside the CaixaForum cultural centre in the the Spanish capital's 'art triangle' where they will stay on display until March 22. They are on loan from Paris' Rodin museum.
The "Art in the Street. Auguste Rodin in Madrid" exhibition is being held to mark CaixaForum's first anniversary.
The brick and cast iron complex located just minutes from the renowned Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen museums that make up the triangle in Madrid, has received over 1.5 million visitors since it opened in February 2008, it said in a statement.
Rodin, who died in 1917 at the age of 77, was regarded by many critics as the greatest sculptor since Michelangelo and he enjoyed great success during his lifetime.
"He not only revolutionised the art of sculpture, which had become relegated to a tedious discipline and reduced to the merely commemorative monument, but also demonstrated his modernity by choosing to exhibit his sculptures in the open air," the statement said.
