An Iranian film highlighting the Tehran rap scene is to open a key section of next week's Cannes film festival, organisers said on Monday.
Film-maker Bahman Ghobadi's "Nobody Knows About The Persian Cats" was chosen as opening film of the "Un Certain Regard" section, which spotlights new and upcoming talent and is held in parallel to the movies competing for the festival's Palme d'Or for best film.
Ghobadi worked with fellow Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami and acted in Samira Makhmalbaf's "The Blackboard" as well as winning a Cannes award for best first feature for his 2000 movie "A Time for Drunken Horses".
Other movies featuring in the section include "Mother" by South Korea's Bong Joon-Ho, US movie "Precious" by Lee Daniels, Australia's "Samson and Delilah" by Warwick Thornton and "Tsar" by Russia's Pavel Lungin.
The jury of the Un Certain Regard section will be presided this year by Italian director and screenwriter Paolo Sorrentino, who was awarded Cannes' Jury Prize in 2008 for his scathing political movie "Il Divo.
Other members of the jury will be French actress Julie Gayet, Toronto Festival director Piers Handling, Indian journalist and festival programmer Uma Da Cunha and Sweden's Marit Kapla, of the Goteborg Festival, Sweden.
