A French hip hop group who this month became world champion in the genre but is virtually a nobody in France is to perform on stage for the first time in Paris in October.
The debut stage show by six-member R.A.F. Crew (for Roots And Feelings), who took home the title at the August Hip Hop World Championship in Las Vegas despite an absence of backing, will mix street and contemporary dance, the group told AFP.
Its members, aged 20 to 30, trained in contemporary dance and won the August 2 trophy against 150 groups from 55 nations.
"Our classical training enabled us to create new movements," said Romuald Brizolier.
"We hope hip hop will get better support and consideration," he added. "We couldn't find a sponsor to back us for the world championships. We had to finance the journey and make our own costumes."
