FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- The City of Fort Wayne unveiled their plan for the 2012 budget.
Mayor Tom Henry (D) is touting flat spending and a balanced budget in 2012. He says it aims to pay down the debt while maintaining vital community services.
Furthermore, the proposal would reduce Fort Wayne's debt by $16 million next year, keeping on pace to pay down 40-percent of the debt by 2015.
All this despite a one-percent property tax cap that's decreasing revenues and a nine-percent reduction in staff over the past decade.
City employees won't be getting raises like last year. The proposal also includes a two-point-nine percent tax levy that will be a point of discussion during budget hearings.
Roller will make a presentation to council members on Tuesday. Hearings will be scheduled and various department heads will make their budget proposals before any voting takes place.
