Fort Wayne, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- Fort Wayne Community Schools honored the 2012 Teacher of the Year Monday night with a reception.
Ed King is the music teacher at North Side High School for 39 years and is credited for taking the Marching Redskins to state numerous times.
His dedication to students and his passion for working with students of all musical abilities were part of the reasons for his selection as Teacher of the Year. King says that he tries to pass on his passion for music on to his students. "I want to give them memories that last a lifetime," he said. "I want to show them that music can be a lifelong pursuit."
Candidates for Teacher of the Year are nominated by building principals with finalists chosen by a committee of administrators.
