FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – A local volunteer organization is helping local families prepare their children for school.
The Active 20-30 Club partnered with 35 families from the Euell A. Wilson Center on a back-to-school shopping spree. The lucky families were given $100 gift card per child to spend at Kohl's on Maysville Rd. Families who wouldn't normally be able to buy new gear for school were able to purchase shoes and clothing, and were given a backpack full of school supplies.
“I'm thankful that they picked us because it helps out a lot with my mom. Coming from a household with one parent, it's hard to provide for five kids, so this helps out a lot, it does,” said 15-year-old Bry’Anna Tate, who will be a Sophomore at Northrop High School.
The Active 20-30 Club says this is their largest and most successful philanthropy project of the year. Active 20-30 Club members say it's about helping the community.
“One of the greatest things about this event is just coming in and having fun with the kids. I mean, some of these kids are coming in and don't have the opportunity to get new clothes, new shoes, and they get a chance to pick some new stuff out,” said Chad Ervin, President-Elect.
The shopping spree is made possible through the "Puttin' on the Ritz" fundraiser they hold every March.
