Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Family and friends gathered together Friday for a difficult and emotional day of love and support for Washington Twp Firefighter Mark Haudenschild, II who died Sunday night while responding to a fire.
Friday morning, the community had the opportunity to show support for Haudenschild during a procession to the funeral home on Dupont Road. Then in the evening the community had another opportunity to pay their respects and say farewell to the local fallen hero.
Saturday morning a small procession of emergency service vehicles will take the body of Haudenschild from the D.O. McComb funeral home on Dupont Rd. to the Chapel on West Hamilton Rd. in Fort Wayne. Then from 9 until 12 p.m. another public viewing will take place at the Chapel. At noon a memorial service will take place where emergency personal from all over the country will come to pay their respects.
Once the service is over, the “big procession” will take place, taking Haudenschild from the Chapel to Riverview Cemetery in Churubusco, located at the intersection of U.S. 33 and Carroll Rd. in Churubusco. Hundreds of emergency vehicles are expected to lead the way to the cemetery.
Monday afternoon, the body of Haudenschild was transferred from the Allen County Coroner’s Officer to D.O. McComb Funeral Home on Lake Avenue.
Haudenschild was a member of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, a husband and father of two children, a 3-year-old son and one-year-old daughter.
D.O. McComb is providing the funeral service at no cost to the family.
3Rivers Federal Credit Union has set up a memorial fund for the family of Mark Haudenschild II.
The official name of the memorial is: Haudsenschild Family Memorial Fund.
Those wishing to donate may do so at any of the 18 3Rivers branches throughout Northeast Indiana.
All money donated will go towards the family.
Haudenschild was trapped underneath the tanker truck he was driving. The tanker had flipped onto its side and crashed into several utility poles late Sunday evening.
Haudenschild was heading south on Hillegas to a fire on Butler Road when the wter shifted in the truck, causing it to roll southbound on Hillegas, making contact with three utility poles.
