1 in 5 Hoosier Children Lived in Poverty in 2010

INDIANA (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Indiana ranks in the bottom half of states in terms of its children.

According to a new report, one in five Hoosier children lived in poverty in the year 2010.

The report comes from last year's "Kids Count" report released Wednesday by the Annie E. Casey Foundation which ranked Indiana 31st in the nation, in terms of the overall well-being of its children.

The report found 22 percent of Indiana children lived in poverty in 2010, that's up from 17 percent in 2005.

Experts cite several factors for the increase, including a rise in single parent households and unemployment.
