FORT WAYNE, Ind., (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Ten little ducklings are back safe with their mother following a harrowing ordeal in Fort Wayne.

It was a different kind of a rescue mission for authorities Thursday morning...forced to retrieve ten baby ducklings from a storm sewer near Illinois Road.

It was just after 9:00am when workers at Staples and O'Daniel Mazda noticed a mother duck frantically pacing in the parking lot of the car dealership. Upon further investigation, they realized as many as ten of the mother's ducklings had fallen into the drain.

As part of a very anxious two-and-a-half hour team rescue effort, a garden hose was used to push the ducklings down the pipe and into the waiting arms of Animal Control Officer Stacy Miller. All ten ducklings were rescued safely and returned to their mother.

DNR authorities will not allow the duck family to be moved to another location, so the momma and her duckings were taken to the back of the property and let go.
