Detroit-area UAW locals vote yes on Chrysler deal

By Peter Neumann

WARREN, Mich. (AP) - Chrysler workers at four Detroit-area
plants have voted in favor of a new contract with the company.

United Auto Workers Locals 140 and 869 in Warren, and UAW Local
1264 in Sterling Heights endorsed the four-year deal, reached after
a six-hour strike october 10th. Workers at Local 1700 also approved
the contract.

The results are good news for UAW President Ron Gettelfinger,
who's faced serious challenges from some members opposed to the
deal.

The locals represent a fifth of the 45,000 workers who'd be
covered by the historic four-year agreement.

Tuesday, two locals in Kokomo, Indiana, overwhelmingly rejected
the deal.
