FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Mayor Tom Henry, D-Fort Wayne, unveiled the city's news recycling initative Thursday morning.
The Downtown Recycles campaign began this past spring; but today, the city installed 8 new streetscape receptables and 16 new litter receptacles will be installed throughout downtown. Henry says the new bins are a creative and cost-effective way to help with litter control.
The new recycling and garbage bins were made possible through capital improvement funding from the Downtown Improvement District, and made by metal finishing students at Anthis Career Center. The city's traffic dividion did the paint job.
The recycling and trash units will be emptied weekly through a contract with Republic Services.
