AUBURN, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A truck driver has been sentenced to a year-and-a-half in jail after pleading guilty to damaging the historic Spencerville Covered Bridge.
Gerard Hudson, 46, of Waukegan, Ill., pleaded guilty in DeKalb County court to felony criminal mischief causing damage in excess of $2,500.
In the plea deal, Hudson will serve 180 days of the sentence with the remaining one year suspended. Court officials say Hudson, who has been in jail since his arrest, will get credit for time served.
Hudson admitted to driving his rig across the 140-year-old bridge in September, causing in excess of $103,000 in damage. Last month, the DeKalb County Commissioners hired Jutte Excavating of Fort Recovery, Ohio, to repair the bridge.
