113th U.S. Congress Convenes

WASHINGTON (www.incnow.tv) - The 113th U.S. Congress convened Wednesday with one third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives being sworn in at noon.

Ceremonies were held in both chambers with U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., moving from the House to the Senate after his November defeat of State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, R-Ind.

Democrats control the Senate with a 57 to 41 majority; 2 independents also have seats. The oldest senator is Democrat Frank Lautzenberg, 88, of New Jersey. The youngest senator is first-term Democrat Chris Murphy, 39, of Connecticut.

Senators sworn-in today will serve six year terms through 2018.

On the House side, 3rd District U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., has begun his second term.

Republicans control the House, 240 to 190. There are five vacancies. U.S. Rep. John Boehner was re-elected Speaker of the House, and is third in-line to the Presidency of the United States. U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will remain House Minority Leader.

Each seat in the House is up for election every two years.
