INDIANAPOLIS (www.incnow.tv) - A Fort Wayne doctor at the center of the state Medical Licensing Board admitted to a lack of oversight in prescribing practice on Thursday, but the case remains far from over.
Dr. William Hedrick of the Centers for Pain Relief intended to sign an agreement reached with the Indiana Attorney General's office that would have prohibited Hedrick from practicing for two years; and would have prevented him from prescribing controled substances for six years.
But the state licensing board rejected that agreement, sending the case to trial.
Hedrick stands accused of over-prescribing medication to patients; in some cases, leading to death, the state says.
Hedrick's practice encompasses 14 office locations in addition to his practice at the Centers for Pain Relief. He employees 180 people, and has a total of 10 doctors on his staff.
