FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Last year's drought could still affect farmers planting crops this spring.
Weather models show that Fort Wayne and areas north are still in a minor to moderate drought.
With the lack of rain and snow in the area, chemicals and fertilizers may still be fresh in the soil. That could ruin a harvest when farmers rotate crops.
"Many farmers are on a two year rotation," Gonzalee Martin with the Allen County Extension Office says. "They may have used a product on soybeans that are going to be sensitive to the corn."
Martin says it may be recommended for some farmers to not switch their crops this year. But hopes more precipitation could help prevent that.
