KENDALLVILLE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - As a school district continues to mull a decision whether or not to arm staff members, an area sheriff presented his case for doing so.

Sheriff Doug Harp, R-Noble County, addressed the East Noble School Corp. board Wednesday night. Harp endorses a plan that would allow select staff members to carry firearms in the school.

The staff members would go through training, testing and background checks.

"It's new for everybody," Harp says. "There's a lot of things that have to be answered. I think we're head in the right direction. I'm very, very hopeful this plan will end up taking place, because I think it's necessary. And we're real optimistic."

The ENSC board made no decision on arming staff members at Wednesday night's meeting.
