We bring you a frightening story about a young Fort Wayne woman who was badly injured while riding in the passenger seat of a car driving down a city street.
We are learning that other motorists driving in the same area this week were targeted in this new spin on drive-by shootings.
Fort Wayne police are still trying to nail down who was responsible for an episode that would be any vehicle passenger's worst nightmare.
The stretch of road is the 2800 block of Lafayette Street.
Two a.m. Tuesday morning, a rock band guitarist and his girlfriend Erika Kinney were coming home from a St. Patrick's Day party.
The man was driving, when suddenly, a projectile hurled or fired out of some sort of weapon crashed through the passenger side window.
Alan Quandt, a friend of the people in the car, says the young girl was struck full force.
Alan Quandt/Friend of Victims: " They were driving down Lafayette, the window exploded, and she was bleeding from the side of her face, so they took her to the hospital and it turns out, there was hemorrhaging."
Quandt said Erika Kinney underwent some form of brain surgery.
Hospital officials say she's in serious condition.
Two other motorists contacted Indiana’s NewsCenter, saying their vehicles were also struck by rocks, as they drove on that same stretch of road.
Neither was injured, but both filed reports with the Fort Wayne Police Department.
City police confirmed Wednesday that two juveniles have been questioned about the incident involving Erika Kinney, but there is no word on any charges.
Police have not released information about how the rocks were fired at the automobiles targeted.
But Quandt says he was told a potato cannon was used.
A potato cannon is a homemade device that will shoot with a good deal of force whatever you load into it.
Fort Wayne police found a rock in the back seat area of the car Kinney was riding in.
That rock has been placed into evidence.
