Woman Who Stops to Help Motorist Bitten For Her Efforts

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) - Police say a woman who tried to help
after a car crash was punched and bitten by the man she was trying
to assist.

Twenty-eight-year-old Danielle Herndon of New Castle suffered a
broken finger and possibly a broken nose when she was attacked.

Twenty-one-year-old Rex Allen Shannon of Middletown is jailed on
a variety of charges, including battery and public intoxication. Herndon was driving with her mother on Interstate 70 in eastern
Indiana Tuesday night when they saw Shannon's car run off the road
and overturn.

Police say Shannon kicked and spat on a state trooper and a
medic when they arrived to help.
