Even the animals were talking about the quake Friday morning, or at least some believe animals can sense them. We sent our Nicole Pence to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo -- Saturday is the big season opener.

Scientists have been grappling with the question for centuries: can animals sense earthquakes? The zoo's director tells Indiana’s NewsCenter they don't know if that happened here Friday morning, with only a few keepers up with the animals at that time. But, we are told nothing was damaged, especially the babies, like these Nigerian goats, who are a new addition this season.

The world renowned Fort Wayne Children's Zoo begins it's 44th season tomorrow. Last year was one of the most successful seasons to date.

If you go, you'll notice a number of new critter faces: baby wallabies, goats, and penguins. 2-hundred total animals in here. But, some are off limits. Because of the 'African Journey' construction project, you won't be able to see the giraffes and zebras up close. The "African Sky Safari" and other new additions should still be fun for the family.

Jim Anderson/FW Children's Zoo: "We are investing a lot of dollars into the African Journey exhibit right now. 9 Million dollars. Construction started a year ago, and will continue for a year. Meanwhile in the other sections of the zoo, we invested dollars in more concession stands, littler details, there is a new mist playground for kids."
