The Hillary Clinton campaign roared into Fort Wayne this morning, ten days before the now critical Indiana primary. Clinton paid her second visit to the city this morning at Headwaters Park. Today’s event was grander than her first visit last month. About 1500 packed the pavilion to hear the New York senator discuss her plans for the country. She told Indiana’s News Center the slumping American auto industry is in desperate straits and needs help recovering. The auto industry is crucial to the local economy.
“The fact that the auto industry has so many legacy costs, like health care and pension benefits, that other countries don't impose on any particular business means that the government has to do more to take those costs off of the backs of the auto companies,” she said. “And I am also promoting green bonds, green vehicle bonds that would give a revenue stream to the companies so they can retool their plants to actually move more quickly toward the kind of higher gas mileage cars that we need to have.”
Clinton said getting the economy moving again, and ending the Iraq war, will be her two top priorities if elected president. After the rally she headed for South Bend for campaign events there.
