185 Applicants Crash Fire Department's Application Website (VIDEO)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- The Fort Wayne Fire Department is already reporting a significant response to Monday's announcement that it would be hiring 15 new firefighters.

Chief Amy Biggs says the department has received 185 applications so far and is expecting between 800 and 1200 applicants by the July 26th deadline.

The department was so inundate with online applications, that the web site crashed for a time.

"Any candidate that may have come through previous processes may notice differences in the written exam or how the oral interviews are conducted," Chief Biggs said. "But we're excited about it and to see this evolve, finally.

Chief Biggs also said the department is hoping to hire men and women who reflect the diversity of the city.
