Police Stand-Off: Man turns gun on himself

By Daniel Leeper

(UPDATE) FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- UPDATE: Fort Wayne Police released early Sunday morning that 36 year old Richard J. Scott died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Scott died Saturday afternoon at Parkview Hospital.

Fort Wayne Police responded to a call late Friday night that resulted in a car chase leading to an attempted suicide.

Around 11:30 Friday night police were called to 3016 Vance Ave. to a wife claiming her husband tied her up after an argument. The husband told the wife he was going to Regency Park Apartments to kill her friend.

The wife was able to free herself and go to the neighbors where she could call the police.

When the police arrived at Regency Park they noticed a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect. Police tried to pull the man over but he fled the complex.

After a car chase back to Vance Ave., the man exited the vehicle carrying an AK-47 rifle and a 9 mm pistol.

The police made several attempts to get the man to put down his weapons. The man refused and then turned the pistol on himself. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the husband to the hospital.

Officers arrived in time and the wife and her friend were unharmed.
