Indiana Democrats hope for record turnout in fall

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The national Democrat campaigns have moved
out of Indiana. But Democrats across Indiana hope they can still capture some advantage from the attention, activism and record voter turnout the
presidential candidates generated.

Nearly 1.3 million votes were cast in the Democratic primary.
That is three times the number of Republican votes statewide.

From gubernatorial nominee Jill Long Thompson to local
candidates, Democrats see the potential for more volunteers, donors
and new supportive voters coming from the weeks of presidential
hoopla.

Long Thompson faces Gov. Mitch Daniels in the November election.
She says the number of votes on the Democratic side provides a
real opportunity for Hoosiers to be very independent once again.
