FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter)--- It's a medicine that some critics call "rat poison."

Recently, Indiana's NewsCenter aired an in-depth report on a drug called Antabuse, along with the area's Alcohol Abuse Deterrent Program.

Since that time, we've received overwhelming response from viewers.

The clinical director of AADP says though when it comes to the program, there's a big difference between perception and reality.

Two drunk driving arrests and you're given the choice of jail or becoming an AADP client and taking a drug called Antabuse three times a week.

The drug will make you sick if taken with alcohol, but many argue it can cause serious health problems regardless and that the program is corrupt.

Edna from Fort Wayne gave us her two cents: "Why not just have them take a breathalizer three times a week and if they don't pass, put them in jail...that Antabuse is nothing but rat poison.

Thomas from Fort Wayne writes: " You go to prison, you can have it over within one year, you go to AADP it takes you three years and lots of money. It's not all about drugs and alcohol to them, it's more about money."

Cindy from Fort Wayne adds: "If you sit in the parking lot for any length of time you'll see this is a money mill. This is a legal drug house with AADP the pushers."

John from Fort Wayne says: "The orientation package given to a client states the minor symptoms, like headaches and fatigue. They go into none of the severity of taking this drug. They say nothing about the studies on rats where 92 of 98 died of cancer and potential neurotoxicity."

"I have seen people that did have pre-existing liver disease, hepatitis, given Antabuse, it's made it worse. They had to stop it. I've had people develop rashes, boils actually that were very uncomfortable. We reduce the dose and stop it and there have been reports of peripheral neuropathy," says Dr. Don Marshall, a psychiatrist with Parkview Hospital.

There's a letter online right now addressed to Congress and it asks for a revision of the Indiana Code that allows for the AADP program.
