FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The number of students in the Fort Wayne Community Schools district who don't speak English as a first language has grown to 2,000.

To keep up with its diverse student population, the district is expanding its English Language Learner's program.

Five additional schools will offer English Language Learners services this fall.

The first informational meeting for parents was held today at Northcrest Elemenary, one of the 14 schools that already offers the ell program.

The new ELL schools include Harrison Hill, Holland, Lincoln, and Waynedale Elementary schools and Shawnee Middle schools.

Because of the new programs, school ELL boundaries will change, but ELL students who want to remain in their current programs will be allowed to do so.

For others, it will provide the option to attend a school closer to home.

The addition of these schools will also mean smaller class sizes.

To help parents understand the transition and their options, FWCS will offer a series of information meetings. Below is the schedule:
Wednesday, June 11
• 10 a.m., Northcrest Elementary, 5301 Archwood Lane
• 6 p.m. Northwood Middle School, 1201 E. Washington Center Road
