No Progress in Indiana Toll Road Contract Talks

June 18, 2010 Updated Jul 7, 2008 at 5:03 PM EST SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - The private operator of the Indiana Toll Road and a union that represents its toll collectors both expressed disappointment today over unresolved contract talks.

A spokesman for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 364 in South Bend says neither side budged from their stances on the percentage of temporary workers they would accept working on the highway. He says the union wants no more than 10 percent temporary workers, while the Indiana Toll Road Concession company wants 30 percent.

A spokesman for the toll road operator says temporary workers are needed to fill gaps in schedules. Dobbs says the operator has been increasing the number of temporary workers while leaving permanent jobs unfilled.
