FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- Allen County Council Member Paula Hughes believes the City of Fort Wayne is dragging its feet over whether to co-locate city and county police.

The lease is expiring on the facility where city police are headquartered on East Creighton Street, and the Sheriff’s Department is desperate for a new home, too.

The city-county building is a prime option for a place to operate the two departments.

County officials fired off a letter to Mayor Tom Henry last week, pressing for some resolution.

Paula Hughes/(R) Allen County Council: " It is very frustrating for us to make them an offer and then just have it sit, almost dead in the water, on the city side. I actively encourage city council members and the mayor to come to the table."

The Henry administration doesn’t understand the criticism.

Spokesperson Ozzie Mitson cites a meeting between city and county officials on co-location that’s on the calendar for next Wednesday.
