ELKHART, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Hundreds of supporters packed Concord High School in Elkhart wearing Barack Obama T-shirts, hats and buttons as the Democrat Presidential Candidate made his 42nd stop in the Hoosier State.

The day began with Senator Evan Bayh addressing the crowd, which led many to believe this was the day Senator Barack Obama would possibly announce Bayh as his running mate.
But that announcement never came.

When Senator Obama took the stage he briefly talked about America's need for a revised health care system, the need to bring our troops home as soon as possible, and a plan to help more students attend college with tax write offs.

He then focused on his new energy plan, which he says will eliminate America’s dependence on foreign oil within 10 years and create 5 million new jobs.

When Indiana's NewsCenter spoke with the Senator following the meeting, we asked what will drive this election and voters decisions.

Senator Obama commented, ”I don't doubt for a second that the economy is going to drive this election. People are still deeply concerned about Iraq; they want to get our troops home. There's a connection between Iraq and our economy. As long as we are spending 10 to 12 million in Iraq, that's money not being spent in the United States. Never the less people are very concerned about their economic futures because nobody has been fighting for them in Washington.

Historically Indiana is a red state when it comes to the presidential election but some experts believe the Hoosier state could turn blue this election season and Barack Obama believes that is indeed a possibility so he has promised to be back to the Hoosier state before November rolls around.
