Police Seek Group that Vandalized Rural Cemetery

By Nina Settappa

GREENSBURG, Ind. (AP) - Authorities are trying to find out who toppled dozens of tombstones in a rural Decatur County cemetery.

Decatur County Sheriff's Deputy Dave Henderson says 30 to 40 gravestones were destroyed at the Shiloh Cemetery. Some stones dated from the 1850s, and some are estimated to weigh two tons.

Henderson says a group of people may have entered the cemetery
last week and vandalized the markers. Cemetery officials estimated it would take three or four people to topple some of the stones.

Caretakers and trustees discovered the damage on Sunday. Damage
is estimated at $30,000 to $40,000.
