BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. (AP) - An Ohio college athlete is dead and six
others are in the hospital after a minivan veered off a Pittsburgh-area highway and careered into the woods.
Kelly Roggensack, a sophomore cross-country runner for Franciscan University in Steubenville, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday.
Two of Roggensack's teammates were flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. Four others in the vehicle are being treated in a hospital in Weirton, W.V. Those injuries are not believed to be serious.
Police say the driver apparently tried to avoid a tire on a road about 26 miles west of Pittsburgh and lost control of the car.
