Moped And Scooter Traffic Enforcement Campaign

June 18, 2010 Updated Sep 2, 2008 at 12:54 PM EST FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) – In response to a growing concern in the operation of Mopeds and Scooters, the Fort Wayne Police Department will conduct a “Selective Traffic Enforcement Campaign” to curb the illegal use and operation of these vehicles. Several state statutes and local ordinances govern the legal usage of Mopeds and Scooters on public thoroughfares. To often officers are finding violations dealing with engine size, speed, licensing, insurance, and operator requirements all of which are covered by statutes. The enforcement campaign will be conducted over several weeks beginning with an effort to educate the public on the laws governing operation, licensing, insurance, and equipment requirements concerning these vehicles. The second phase of the campaign will be to actively “stop, tow and then cite” for all violations. Vehicles impounded for violating insurance and licensing requirements, must be corrected prior to their release. What are your thoughts on this story? CLICK HERE to leave us "Your 2 Cents."
