FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- The Ft. Wayne Board of Public Works on Wednesday unanimously approved a contract that is part of a plan to straighten out a traffic headache on a section of State Boulevard in north Fort Wayne.

If city council also signs off on the deal, American Structurepoint Incorporated would be paid more than 950-thousand dollars to work out details of how to realign and straighten a sharp curve on State between Spy Run and Cass Streets.

That section of roadway has been a chronic traffic hazard.

Director Bob Kennedy/Ft. Wayne Public Works: " We have a lot of accidents there, Citilink buses have problems, you see mirrors there, trying to navigate with mirrors. So, it’s really a dangerous area and not only will it alleviate some traffic concerns, but it will also raise the bridge over Spy Run Creek."

The current bridge is susceptible to flooding during rain events.

The realignment of State Boulevard is slated to take place in 2011 or 2012.
