FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jill Long Thompson stopped to have a bite to eat at the Plummer’s and Steamfitter’s Association picnic.

Organizers of the picnic say Long Thompson and Mike Montagano, Democratic candidate for congress, were invited to the event because members feel the two candidates will represent blue-collar workers.

“They represent labor,” said business manager Kent Prossser. “They’ll help us make sure our interests are looked after once they get into office.”

Long Thompson shook hands and signed autographs for supporters. She also spoke with several people about issues they are dealing with and ways to solve their problems.

“People in Indiana are looking for a governor who can truly re-grow the economy,” said Long Thompson. “And I have a MBA and PH D in business from Indiana University, I served as the under secretary for the world United States Agriculture, my husband and I are business people. It's the kind of leadership Indiana needs.”

Mike Montagano was not available for comment.

Jill Long Thompson will campaign throughout northeast Indiana for the next few days.
