FORT WAYNE (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Fort Wayne Community School officials confirm they are receiving phone calls from employees who are worried their personal information has been used in "harmful ways."

Police arrested Steven Brown on September 17. He was found with a life insurance document that included names, social security numbers, and dates of birth of every FWCS employee who received benefits in 2004.

Police are uncertain how Brown got the information. School officials say it was not a breach on their part.

Attorney General Steve Carter held a news conference on the importance of identity protection. He and the school officials suggest everyone check their credit reports and make sure everything is all right.

Carter highlighted the accomplishments of Indiana’s Identity Theft Unit. A resource that can help recover funds and educate the public about identity theft.
