Broadway Corridor Could Be A New Hot Spot

By Laura Donaldson

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Broadway Corridor may become Fort Wayne’s new hot spot as organizers hope to give the downtown street a pop culture atmosphere. The atmosphere would be much like the one in Indianapolis at Broadripple Avenue.

Business leaders and neighbors attended a meeting that was standing room only at Catablu Restaurant Thursday. Organizers talked about whey they hope to accomplish.

They say two miles of the north side of Broadway will receive renovations including a new beer garden for Mad Anthony Brewery and an expansion for George’s International Grocery and Bakery.

Funding for the project will come in large part from the businesses and grants. Mayor Tom Henry announced the city would match some grants with an average of $20,000 going to the company.

Business owners are excited for the opportunity to make Broadway a new destination for Fort Wayne.

“I don’t see a lot of negatives, I don’t,” said Mad Anthony Brewery President Blaine Stuckey.

Stuckey acknowledges the magnitude of the project but is confident community leadership will ensure the project is complete.

“You know when you think about it, it’s going to be awhile to develop the whole community again down here,” said Stuckey. “But, it will happen with the leadership of the businesses taking that step that we are.”
