CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - The Wabash College chapter of Delta
Tau Delta has been suspended following the death of an 18-year-old
freshman.

Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity said Thursday it had directed the chapter to suspend operations. Wabash College says it also has suspended the chapter while the death of Johnny D. Smith of Tucson, Ariz., is investigated.

Smith was found unconscious Sunday morning at the fraternity house in Crawfordsville and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say alcohol was possibly involved. The Montgomery
County coroner is waiting until toxicology results are available in a few weeks before releasing the findings of an autopsy conducted Wednesday.

A memorial service for Smith was held Thursday at the liberal arts school of some 900 students about 40 miles northwest of Indianapolis.
