STEUBEN & WHITLEY COUNTIES, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Two motorcyclists were in two separate crashes this weekend.
48 year old Ronnell Everett of Angola was hurt late Saturday night when Steuben County police say he apparently failed to negotiate a curve and wrecked his motorcycle on County Road 350 North. Everett laid the motorcycle down and slid about 200 feet. He wasn't wearing a helmet and alcohol and speed are listed as factors in the crash.
Police aren't sure how long Everett was in the road. A passerby found him and notified authorities. Officials say Everett had to be airlifted to a hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan because alll other area air ambulances were in use at that time.
One of those vehicles may have been in Whitley County where another motorcyclist was injured in a crash. 19-year-old Justin Wilcoxson was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with head and internal injuries. This was about the same time authorities were treating Everett in Steuben County.
Police say Wilcoxson was apparently speeding when his motorcycle rearended a car on State Road 9 at County Road 995 North.
Wilcoxson was thrown from the bike. He was not wearing a helmet at the time. Wilcoxson passed away Sunday from his injuries. The driver of the other car was not hurt.
