INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - More than 200 students, faculty and staff became ill during a recent outbreak of a virus at Butler University.
Marion County Health Department spokesman John Althardt says the
norovirus was first reported before Thanksgiving and spread rapidly
after everyone came back from the holiday break. The norovirus is one of a family of viruses that are spread person-to-person and cause flu-like symptoms.
Butler officials called the health department last week after dozens of patients visited its campus Health Center with similar symptoms.
Butler spokesman Marc Allen says all public areas of the university are being scrubbed, and that Butler is advising all students and employees to clean their desks, telephones and door handles.
