FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Because of major budget losses, Northwest Allen County Schools will no longer offer driver's education classes.

Superintendent Steve Yager says not enough students signed up for it.

The district budgets for 150-students to take the course every summer -- last year only 68-signed up.

And that cost Northwest Allen $9,400.

Superintendent Yager says, "It has been discontinued for the time being. We've left the door open if there's significant interest. In the summer of '10, we would consider reopening the program and offering the program again."

Yager says students seem to prefer taking courses from two private driver's ed companies, which offer classes year-round.
