HUNTINGTON, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The battle over the separation of church and state is alive and well in Huntington.

The debate centers around a course called "By The Book." The class teaches Christian values and fundamentals to elementary school students in Huntington County Schools.

The class is voluntary and is organized by the Associated Churches of Huntington County.

Students who attend the weekly, thirty-minute course must have signed permission slips from their parents.

Late last year, an unidentified parent in the school district filed a complaint on behalf of her and her eight-year old son regarding the program.

The suit claims the class violates the separation of church and state because the trailer is localed on school grounds.

A hearing in Fort Wayne District Court is scheduled for January 21st.
