BUTLER, Ind (Indiana's NewsCenter)-Despite all of the troubling job news we've heard recently, there is some good news on the job front for northeast Indiana.
More than 150 new jobs and 5-million dollars worth of investments are on the way, heading to the Therma-Tru doors manufacturing plant in Butler.
Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels joined company officials for the announcement. The residential steel and fiberglass door systems manufacturer will soon be the flag-ship plant for the company, following a previous announcement that two other plants, one in Oklahoma and the other in Virginia, will be closing.
Even though thousands of jobs have been lost lately and the number of new jobs doesn't match up, Governor Daniels says Indiana is better prepared than other states to succeed when the economy recovers. He pointed out that state officials have "Signed 21 new deals to bring new business to Indiana since the beginning of the year. My hope is that we will move through tough times better than our competition and come out the other side with a wider advantage than we had. You look at other states who have been forced to raise taxes, that will make them less attractive relative to us and I hope we can preserve that edge."
Therma-Tru will receive some tax incentives as part of the deal. Up to 1-million in performance based tax credits and up to 200-thousand in training grants. Both of those coming from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
